Trading Review: 05-08-2017

Gross PnL: +$111.

Net PnL: +$73. $2 in borrows.

One of those days where there was nothing much going on, and nothing to sink my teeth into. Looking at it in hindsight some of my ideas worked out very well, and some not so much. If I had access to more size I probably would have used 1/4s today, and never really got over half size. Looked like the day was going to be relatively flat until I caught nice short COH.
Definitely over-traded today given lack of opportunity.

Hindsight as a wonderful thing, I should have been sizing into SGOC - very obvious pump and dump, but was slightly late to it. Potentially should have been adding on pops where I covered.

Probably biggest mistake of the day was on AAPL. Not the actual act of shorting it, but the execution of each trade:
(1) Unfortunately narrowly missed cover on first short. Should have covered it into vwap, but was 10c away from filling so can't fault too much.
(2) Then when I added to my short I originally had an order in at 150.74 (pretty much where it peaked), but shorted on a pause at 150.40ish. This is a mistake because I hadn't planned to stop until over 151; so ended up risking more than I should have. It also had lead on effects in point 3.
(3) One of my rules is if a trade tests you more than it should; size down or even scratch out on a favourable move. My order to do this was at breakeven around 150.20ish (slightly above vwap). With my better entry, I would have gotten some covers slightly higher (because B/E would have been slightly better); but it was a mistake not just to take a wee papercut here. At this stage I knew I was wrong, and could have looked to re-establish if the price action improved.

However, in the end I took a great stop and recognised the price action wasn't that of shorting. Could have been a big loser if I had got stubborn.

Some good trading today though, and can't complain too much. Avoiding the AAPL short later in the day because it didn't parabolic, and a number of my trades that I decided to scratch (to go to bed, as have a cold) ending up working nicely is definitely a highlight.
Also stuck to process quite well, with the exception of loser on AAPL being larger than it should be.
